Our Principal Dentist – Dr Girish Basavaraj Graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor’s Degree from a world renowned dental school Bapuji Dental College and Hospital, India (www.bapujidental.edu). He went on to earn Masters in Pediatric dentistry (Children’s Dentistry) from the same institution in 2005.
Dentistry is in his BLOOD, he is the third generation of his family to ply the profession over more than five Decades.
Girsh then gained experience as a senior lecturer training under graduate students at a private dental school in India for almost 1 year prior to successfully obtaining licensure as a General Dentist in Australia by qualifying in the ‘Australian Dental Council Exams’ (ADC) in 2006 -2007.
Girish moved to Townsville in Sept 2007, where he worked as a general Dentist at a private practice. After working for 5 years in Townsville, when he realized the need for a dentist in Charters Towers, and thus in 2012, set up a full time private practice there. Over the years he has established himself as one of the leading general dental practitioners in Charters Towers as well as Townsville. He has always strived to excel and expanded his repertoire of professional skills through ongoing continued dental education programs in the areas of cosmetic dentistry, Implant dentistry, Invisalign, and private practice management programs.
Girish has successfully completed a hands on Implant certification program with Brenner Implant Institute, Sydney under the highly experienced trainer and clinician, Dr. Dan Brener in 2011. He is also certified in laser dentistry and an accredited practitioner for Invisalign treatment. Girish is member of Australian Society of Implant Dentistry (ASID), The International Congress of Oral Implantologists(ICOI) and The Implant Prosthetic Section of the (ICOI).
Girish is popular amongst his patients as a very ‘Gentle Dentist’ and for his excellent customer service. He believes in building a long term relationship with his patients and their families.
Outside dentistry, Dr. Girish enjoys involving in various social community activities and also enjoys playing cricket.
Dr Niels Kirsten was born and raised in Townsville. In 2010, he graduated in Bachelor Nursing Science at James Cook University (JCU) and worked in rural communities in far North Queensland as a registered nurse. Dr Kirsten went on to study Bachelor of Dental Surgery at JCU to follow in his father’s footsteps as a dentist. Growing up in a dental practice and observing his father, Niels had developed a strong interest in dentistry early in life. Since graduating as a dentist in 2015, he has worked for the public sector in rural communities and has attended many courses in practical oral surgery. Dr Kirsten’s ambitions as a general dentist is to provide a broad service to Charters Towers and the surrounding communities.
I was born in Townsville and lived there up until 2017 when I moved to Rockhampton to complete my Bachelor of Oral Health degree at CQ University. During this time, I gained experience working in both public and private practice. I am passionate about paediatric dentistry and love educating children and parents about the importance of proper oral hygiene habits. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my niece and nephews, travelling and playing with my pet cat Gigi, and mini fox terrier Abby.
Kelly discovered her passion for the dental industry when she began her career in the 1990′s as a Trainee Dental Assistant. She has since moved into clinical training, multi-site management and clinical governance/advisory roles.
After nearly 2 decades, she has worked in the dental industry for half her life and enjoys being able to support dentists and their staff with the experience and knowledge she has gained throughout her career.
Melissa is a local girl, born in Charters Towers. She started her career in dental as a receptionist, then decided to further her knowledge of dental procedures by assisting chairside.
She very quickly came to love dental assisting and never looked back. She completed her Certificate III in Dental Assisting in 2012 through the Australian Dental Association Queensland. Melissa joined our team as Senior Dental Assistant in February 2015 and has completed her Certificate IV in Dental Assisting (Radiography & Administration) in 2016. She is passionate about her job, as she has seen that having a great smile can change people’s lives.
Outside of work, Melissa enjoys riding horses, playing with her dogs, reading, and most of all, spending time with her family and friends.
Abby has lived in Charters Towers her whole life, graduating from high school in 2014. She began her dental career in 2016 as a Dental Assistant and is quickly discovering her passion for dentistry. She has since completed her Certificate III in Dental Assisting, Abby is always keen to expand her knowledge of the dental industry and continue to better her skills.
